New paper: Feasibility of 7T 39K/23Na Magnetic Resonance Imaging for assessing muscular ion balance in hypokalemic periodic paralysis
Congratulations to Claudius Sebastian Mathy and co-authors on the recently published article “Feasibility of 7T 39K/23Na Magnetic Resonance Imaging for assessing muscular ion balance in hypokalemic periodic paralysis”!
This study used combined potassium-39 and sodium-23 MRI at 7 Tesla to investigate disrupted muscle ion homeostasis in hypokalemic periodic paralysis (HypoPP). Patients showed significantly elevated apparent tissue sodium concentrations (aTSC) and reduced potassium concentrations (aTPC) in specific muscles compared to healthy controls. These findings provide new insights into the pathophysiology of HypoPP and may support future assessments of disease extent and treatment response.
